DESIGNING THE FUTURE

“In the twenty-first century, the robot will take the place which slave labor occupied in ancient civilization.” — Nikola Tesla

THE WORLD AFTER REVOLUTION

In today’s advanced world, it feels like everything is easier to make out. A lot of work that should take a long time if done by humans, is now faster because of the sophistication of technology and machine power which is much more efficient in using time.

But wait a min. Are these all profitable, or are there some disadvantages?

If we look at the effects broadly, this may seem very beneficial, especially for economic growth as well as labor efficiency.

On the other hand, many people have lost their jobs and have to be overwhelmed to find new jobs when their jobs are replaced by machines.

Unfortunate indeed, the high-tech development that is present must sacrifice humans who previously operated on these tasks.

Consciously or unconsciously, we also advantage from technology because everything can be instant and fast, but on the other hand, our work, which we are currently working on, may one day be replaced by machines.

This has been identified in almost all levels of society. If in the past plowing had to use cows or buffalo as power to plow the fields, now the sophistication of the machines has succeeded in replacing the work of cows or buffalo to plow fields.

If in the past, we had to send letters or files through the post office, now everyone can use email. If in the past the phone had to line up at the telephone booth, now everyone even has a smartphone, so you can call not only hearing the voice, but also seeing faces using a video call.

For those who frequently go on toll roads, if in the past you had to queue to pay every time you exited the toll road using cash, now everything will automatically just tap with the card and pass on.

All these conveniences also have a direct impact on the human labor who previously worked there. Although today there are still postmen, but for certain there are not as many as before, post offices still exist today, but more often to deliver certain goods or packages.

Most all of the toll gate guards have been replaced by automatic machines that have been set up in such a way to make it more practical and efficient without the need for someone to guard the payments.

Even now, many other jobs are also performed by machines, starting from cashiers, ticket sellers, even electric trains and the MRT which are also automatically run by machines.

Sooner or later, these machines will begin to dominate the various fields of work executed by humans today.

If we can adapt and improve our skills, surely we can keep up with this increasingly sophisticated technological development. But if not, we will be rolled by the sophistication of increasingly capable technology.

“Even the technology that promises to unite us, divides us. Each of us is now electronically connected to the globe, and yet we feel utterly alone.”― Dan Brown, Angels & Demons

EXTRA MILES

The development of increasingly advanced technology is indeed impressive. But on the other hand, we also have to develop skills, increase knowledge and must be able to adapt to all these technological developments.

Indeed, when looked at from a broader perspective, technology will be something promising, something that can help and make our lives easier.

Then we have to be able to balance our abilities. Utilizing this technology to create various kinds of innovations that can benefit us and could be a new opportunity in the future.

We have to be smart, we have to be more agile in getting around everything. Do not lose in the situation, but must have the courage to make changes in order to improve our abilities and stay relevant today.

Make sure we always execute it with the extra mile, don’t just do it. If another person walks 10 steps, we must walk 20 steps. If other people study only 2 hours, we should be able to study 4 hours.

The more effort we put in, the greater the investment in ourselves, to ensure that we can survive in the future.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”― Buckminster Fuller

EMBRACE THE FUTURE

The future is unpredictable. What is there now may not be there 20 years ago. Many things change, develop and become more advanced.

Since technology continues to develop, industrial revolutions are happening everywhere. Business innovation is also growing rapidly in almost all layers of society.

If we don’t follow it, and so we will be left behind and even get wrapped up in it.

Don’t look at it from a superficial perspective, that technology is only for people who have money. The more advanced the technology, the more expensive it takes.

Only if we can use it to produce a profitable business innovation, then there’s nothing wrong with buying that technology to make our business more successful in the future.

We can’t go on thinking conventionally. We can’t force ourselves to do something like in the old days. Everything changes, everything are getting more advanced, we have to adjust and we also have to develop too.

“We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works.”― Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt
